The AIGS scholarship review committee will match suitable international applicants with full or partial scholarships. At present, this only applies for courses held at our Bangkok campus, and are therefore not currently available for online A.G. programs or other AIGS courses:

Full Scholarship

This covers successful applicants for 100% of their course fee on the grounds that he/she signs a two-year contract with AIGS after graduation. During this period, the graduate would work either as a gemologist in AIGS laboratory or as an instructor at the AIGS school.

Partial Scholarship

This covers 30% of the courses fees and does not include any post-graduate commitments on behalf of the successful applicant.

Barter Scholarship

Applicants with specific skills are invited to pitch an offer to AIGS with regards to how they can make a contribution to our organization in exchange for a reduction in their A.G. course fees. For instance, a skilled photographer may offer to take pictures for AIGS textbooks or promotional materials, while a web designer could make contributions to the AIGS website.

AIGS Scholarship Eligibility (International applicants)

  • Any nationality.
  • Aged not over 30 years old.
  • Applications must be submitted in English.
  • Graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in any field.

Required Documents

The following documents should be scanned and sent to

  • Personal Statement: Within a strict 1000-word limit, your personal statement should outline how you first became interested in gemology, your past applicable educational, work or business experience, and in what ways you feel that you could contribute to AIGS and the industry as a whole in the future.
  • Letter of Recommendation: This should be written by someone whom you have known in a professional and/or personal capacity within a stated professional, educational, religious, charitable or community organization. The person in question must describe who they are, how long they have known you and in what ways he/she feels you are suitable for the award. In order to verify the legitimacy of submitted recommendations, we also request the contact details for the referee and the organization he/she represents.
  • Passport Scan: A color scan of the photo page of your passport, as well as any current Thai visas or entry stamps.
  • Photo: One 4 x 6 cm photo.
  • Educational Certificate Scans: Color scans of any applicable certificate of higher education, including diplomas from other gemological instituations and/or degrees in related fields. Please note that the receipient's name on the certificate must match that shown in the applicant's passport.

Terms and Conditions

Scholarship students must aim to have successfully completed all four A.G. units within 18 months of the commencement of the program.

Attendance is required throughout the duration of all classes, unless documented proof is subsequently provided for illness or family emergencies.

Failure to adhere to the above two rules will result in the removal of the scholarship and the requirement to pay any further tuition or re-testing fees incurred after that time.

Scholarship students can enroll only if there are vacant seats in the class they want. If no seats are open they must wait until space is available in another class.

Full scholarships are for covering tuition fees only, and therefore do not cover the following textbook, laboratory and administrative costs:

  • Gem Identification - 24,000 baht.
  • Synthetics & treated Gem Identification - 9,000 baht
  • Colored Stone Grading and Pricing - 9,000 baht
  • Diamond Grading and Pricing - 9,000 baht

In addition, the Full Scholarship does not include the field trips abroad that may become associated with the program.

Scholarship recipients are responsible for any tax liabilities that may apply.
